Setting

setting

Alpha Complex is a high-tech future underground city of lasers, robots, cloned citizens and an insane Computer. There are several different sectors within the city, all of which are accessible by certain levels of security clearance.

To ensure that only citizens of the requisite competence and trustworthiness have access to restricted areas, The Computer has divided Alpha Complex into colored areas. Every room has been painted the color of the lowest clearance allowed. Citizens may only enter areas of their clearance or lower. Failure to do so is treason.

The Wagon Wheel

The Wagon Wheel is a group of buildings at the core of Alpha Complex that hold the majority of the sleeping quarters of its citizens as well as lower level bureaucratic offices. This looming building is connected to several train stations that wrap around it and are connected by bridges, ending in a building that resembles a wagon wheel.
Floors 1-14
  • The first ten floors house the barracks where INFRAREDs sleep and share communal showers. Each floor also has a pill distribution center for morning and evening doses of HappiTime.
  • The eleventh floor houses RED citizens and can as easily be the location of impromptu celebrations or murderous outbursts from overworked and paranoid Troubleshooters. RED citizens share large rooms with five other roommates at a time. Survival almost always depends on whether or not you are able to befriend or bribe your fellow roommates. There is a large common room on the north side of this floor, though the vidscreen was broken in an altercation over two years ago and was never replaced.
  • The twelfth floor houses ORANGE citizens and is much quieter than the floor that lies below it. There are only two citizens assigned to a room at a time. There are even cheerful curtains on the windows! There’s a small kitchen that ORANGE citizens are encouraged to use in order to bypass the crowded Commissary.
  • The thirteenth floor houses YELLOW citizens. These rooms have beds and a desk! Real curtains, a private radio and a shared bathroom with another room. There is a machine that dispenses Bouncy Bubble Beverage for a few credits. Careful, though! These cans have been known to explode upon opening.
  • The fourteenth floor houses GREEN citizens and is made up of one bedroom apartments suited especially well for middle management citizens. Furnishings are simple, but comfortable and each apartment has a private vidscreen and a kitchen with functional appliances.
Floors 15-20
  • The fifteenth floor houses the Commissary. The commissary is not only considered the only legal place to obtain goods, it is also the place where citizens go daily to eat three square meals a day.
  • The sixteenth floor through the twentieth houses several lower level bureaucratic offices for Central Processing Unit (CPU), Technical Services (TS) and Internal Security (IntSec).
  • The twenty-first floor through the twenty-fifth houses the offices of Housing Planning & Development (HPD) and the sets, screening rooms and production floors for Mind Control(MC).
Armed Forces Sector

The Armed Forces Sector is one of the largest in Alpha Complex and is located on the Northwest edge of the Complex. It is home to the major buildings associated with the Armed Forces. Locations of interest include:
  • Armory (All official military weapons)
  • Hangars (Copters, Flybots, Vulturecraft)
  • Army Depot (Crawlers, Autocars, Transbots)
  • Ascending Pods to the surface of the Earth
  • Primary Army Base (Army offices and recreation buildings)
  • Manufacturing plants for weaponry, armor and armed (and armored) vehicles.
  • Hangar 17 (Where the first mutant was said to be held before execution)
  • Training Complex (Classrooms, Obstacle Courses, Gyms and a Pool)
  • Firing Ranges
  • The offices of several civilian Service Firms that aid the Alpha Complex’s Armed Forces in their development of weapons, vehicles, sensitivity training and other related fields.
Power Services Sector

The Power Services is located on the Southern edges of Alpha Complex and is responsible for supplying power to the complex. Locations of interest include:
  • Power Reactor Cores - A large underground river passes through the Power Sector which has allowed for the Sector to house multiple massive reactor cores and keep them within safe operating temperatures. The bottom third of the sector is comprised of banks of reactors and all the sub-systems required for their operation. Vast networks of access tunnels and conduits link everything to the central control hub cloned every daycycle of the yearcycle by the stalwart members of Power Services.
  • Super Bot Factory - This is a joint venture of Power Services and R&D. Utilizing the sector’s vast power generating capabilities, the factory builds a wide array of bots commonly seen across all of Alpha Complex. The factory’s assembly lines include all of the manufacturing process from raw material to completed bot. Following final assembly, a portion of the bots are shipped to the R&D Customization & Repurposing Facility.
  • Control Rooms.
  • The Strobe - Part dance club, part testbed for new power technologies, the Strobe draws power from the sector, boasting a 700Gw sound system and over 20,000 SeizureBomb 8000 Motorized Lighting instruments, this club consumes more poer per square meter than the Central CompNode. Citizens with RED clearance or above flock to the Strobe to blow off steam and lose their hearing.
Research & Development (R&D) Sector

The R&D Sector is in close proximity to the Armed Forces Sector, though it is much smaller in size, and lies to the East of the Complex. Locations of interest include:
  • The offices of several civilian Service Firms that aid the Alpha Complex’s Armed Forces in fielding requests for new products, testing new products and disposing of failed products.
  • Several laboratories and firing ranges used to test new and ‘tweaked’ equipment, bots, and drugs.
  • Customization & Repurposing Facility.
  • Warehouses (contents unknown).
  • BattleBot ring for the testing and destruction of new bots.
Technical Services Section

The Technical Services Section is located on the Western edge of Alpha Complex and is home to the facilities that perform Cloning and Medical Services. Locations of interest include:
  • Clone Tank Storage
  • Consolidated Motorized Transport (Repair of Autocars, Transbots and Transitions)
  • Auto Car Garages
  • MemoMax Banks
  • Medical Services (Hospital and Pharmaceutical Distribution Center)
  • Tech Support Service Firms for all Alpha Complex programs
Information on purchasing additional clones can be found here.
Specials Headquarters

The Specials’ Headquarters was founded by members of the first batch of Specials introduced to Alpha Complex - Ray Palmer, Barry Allen and Dick Grayson. It is located in abandoned Warehouse 113 in the R&D Sector. The Specials have outfitted it with a security system that only works for approved Specials, or specials that can be trusted. On paper the warehouse supplies the RED kitchen and is full of expired REDdimeal packets. The street level part of the building does have some forgotten packets of REDdimeals spread out across the warehouse floor. At the back of the abandoned warehouse is an office with a hidden door that leads down to the basement level.

It is believed that this hidden basement was once a meeting place for a now extinct Secret Society. Since discovering the abandoned hideout, the Specials have been slowly outfitting it as they can with tech, supplies and equipment. It’s been a slow process but currently the hideout has some basic furniture (two cots, a couch, a beat up arm chair, a folding table and some chairs), a small, make-shift lab, a bathroom and chemical shower, and the beginnings of a tech center of operations. There are vidscreens for Specials to keep up to date on Alpha programming, a few card games and a small stockpile of bland REDdimeals and non-perishables. In the corner of the warehouse basement is a pad that has been put down for the occasional self-defense instruction.
SubSectors

There are several SubSectors that fill in the spaces between the main four Sections of Armed Forces, R&D, Tech Services and Power Services. The majority of these contain residential housing for Clearance Level citizens that are BLUE, INDIGO or VIOLET. Citizens in these sectors are very wealthy and have much more free time, which has also led to the development of several public works.. These are open to all citizens RED clearance level or above. Locations of Interest include:
  • Alpha Complex Art Gallery - This collection of artwork, loaned by various high-clearance ‘patrons’ of the arts is available for viewing by anyone of clearance RED and above (with certain rooms of a higher clearance), allowing citizens a taste of ‘culture.’
  • Public Waterfront - An old reservoir which has been handed over to the citizens for use in sporting activities. Since most citizens cannot swim, it is usually the playground of those with boats and or have had the privilege of learning how to swim through Service Firm instruction or Secret Society activities.
  • Central Virtual Arena - Virtual Reality Park where citizens can escape the real world. Citizens are able to experience life as characters in their favorite vid-shows, while higher clearance grant the option of technically detailed simulators of flying advanced military vehicles or exploring blueprints of building sectors.
  • Alpha City Library - All books, novels and histories have been edited many times throughout the time that The Computer has been in charge. While citizens are welcome to read books at the library, most of them have been edited, censored or altered so that they are almost all but unreadable.
Infrared Market

The Infrared Market is located in the depths of one of the lower level Entertainment SubSectors. The market isn’t actually one location, but a string of Special Service fronts and Black Market dealers that are known to hang out in a small four block radius of the Entertainment Subsector. Alpha Citizens can’t go more than a few steps without being solicited to purchase a number of less than legitimate Alpha goods and services.

However, beware, these all too eager Infrared Dealers are often undercover IntSec agents. Those in the know have to do a fair amount of palm greasing or know someone that knows someone before they can get in contact with a legitimate Infrared Market dealer. Once you’ve reached a dealer, however, you are able to purchase just about anything within Alpha Complex, as long as you are willing to pay the price for it. The price for goods is determined by their rarity, your clearance level and how difficult they are to move. Free Enterprise also deals in favors, so if you’re short on cash don’t count yourself out entirely.
Sewer

Traitors love to hide in the large and labyrinth-like sewers of Alpha Complex. Beware the possibility of radiation poisoning, giant cockroaches and the Free Enterprise secret society who has been known to move stolen goods on the INFRARED market down there.
